MuCell technology |
The MuCell technology is
a processing technology in which supercritical
gas is diffused into molten polymer to develop
foamed plastics with cell sizes between 0.5
- 100µm. On of the greatest advantages
of this technology is 20 - 30% reduction in
product weight without significant loss of mechanical
properties of conventional non-foamed plastics.
* MuCell is a registered trademark of Trexel
Inc. |
 |
|
| The MuCell technology is
based on a patent awarded to Dr. Nam P. Suh
et al. at the MIT (Massachusetts Institute of
Technology). Trexel, Inc. based in Boston, USA
is the exclusive licensor of the proprietary
MuCell technology. On the basis of the fundamental
patent of MIT, Trexel Inc. invested tens of
millions of dollars on research and development,
successfully established and commercialized
the technology related to extrusion molding,
injection molding and blow molding. More than
2000 patents applied by Trexel Inc. form barriers
that prevent competitors seeking for the development
and commercialization of similar products from
entering the market. |
 |
Patents |
| Patents with regard to products
and processes related to the microcellular foam
processing technology through the use of supercritical
gas have been applied and granted mainly in
Asia, Europe and North America. Some of products
utilizing this technology have already been
brought to the commercial stage: |

Exclusive Contract with Trexel Inc. |
| JSW signed an agreement
with Trexel Inc. in December 2000 with relation
to exclusive manufacturing and distributing
right for MuCell extruders in Japan, Korea and
Southeast Asia as well as the exclusive right
concerned with the establishment of the MuCell
Development Center. On the basis of this agreement,
JSW takes charge of technical guidance on tests,
development and production by the use of MuCell
extruders and sales of the system. |

Full-Electric Mucell Injection Molding
Machine |
| The
Injection Molding Machinery Division of
JSW has been granted by Trexel Inc., the manufacturing
and distributing license for the MuCell (microcellular
foam processing technology) injection molding
machine through the use of supercritical fluids. |
