The Japan Steel Works, Ltd. (JSW), established in 1907, had amassed a wealth of advanced technology as the largest private weapons manufacturer in Japan by the end of World War II. After the war, conversion of production to meet civilian demand gave the Company a fresh start, and materials and processing technologies accumulated over the years were used as a base for technical development and the cultivation of new business fields. The Company’s product groups now include large-sized steel castings and forgings, heavy machinery and steel structures, steel plates, plastics machinery,industrial machinery, and equipment for the petroleum, gas, chemical, and petrochemical industries. These products are fully backed by the Company’s extensive range of engineering and support services. Thus, JSW continues to make significant contributions to the development of the chemical and heavy industries around the world.The current focus is on development of advanced materials, optics, magnetics,electronics, biotechnology, and other leading-edge technologies. The Company has also branched out into new fields such as urban redevelopment and environmental services.In particular, JSW remains committed to promoting management that keys on the development of technologies that are supportive of recycling and of environmental and ecological efforts.
